122 Evaluation of Server Performance Under Various Indoor Thermal Conditions Through Field Surveys

Authors: Muhamad Setyo Zaki Ghifari, Hom Bahadur Rijal

Abstract:

The increasing demand for efficient small-scale enterprise data centers necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the interactions between environmental conditions and server operations. While large-scale data centers have been extensively studied, research focusing on enterprise data centers within constrained environments remains limited, leaving a significant gap in understanding their unique challenges. This study aims to analyze the effects of indoor thermal conditions, specifically air temperature, on server performance and operational stability while considering relative humidity as a crucial parameter for ensuring equipment safety in alignment with ASHRAE guidelines. The research involves conducting a field survey with a laptop acting as a simulated server placed in an active lab environment designed primarily for people. Benchmarking tools such as Cinebench are used to evaluate computational performance, while HWMonitor records CPU temperature and power-related metrics. Air temperature and relative humidity are measured using the TR-76Ui sensor under varying room cooling conditions, including free running, cooling, and heating, determined by the season during data collection. Measurements are conducted with reference to ASHRAE-recommended ranges to maintain operational reliability and prevent equipment damage. In addition, fan noise levels are monitored to evaluate the impact of thermal conditions on the noise generated, providing insights into how these factors influence workplace comfort alongside server performance. Preliminary findings suggest that higher ambient air temperatures lead to significant increases in CPU temperature, resulting in potential thermal throttling and reduced computational performance. Relative humidity outside the ASHRAE-recommended range could pose risks to equipment safety. Future analysis will identify critical environmental thresholds and propose applicable solutions for enhancing server operational stability while minimizing disruptions in shared environments designed for human activity. This research provides valuable insights into designing and operating efficient enterprise data centers, emphasizing the importance of environmental analysis in optimizing performance, equipment safety, and workplace comfort.

Authors: Ahmad Alshammari, Abdulaziz Bagabas, Muhamad Assulami

Abstract:

Rhodamine B (RB) is a toxic dye used extensively in textile industry, which must be remediated before its drainage to the environment. In the present study, supported gold nanoparticles on commercially available titania and zincite were successfully prepared and then their activity on the photodegradation of RB under UV-A light irradiation were evaluated. The synthesized photocatalysts were characterized by ICP, BET, XRD, and TEM. Kinetic results showed that Au/TiO2 was an inferior photocatalyst to Au/ZnO. This observation could be attributed to the strong reflection of UV irradiation by gold nanoparticles over TiO2 support.

Authors: Aditya Setyo Rahman, Dwikorita Karnawati, Muzli, Dadang Permana, Sigit Pramono, Fajri Syukur Rahmatullah, Oriza Sativa, Moehajirin, Edy Santoso, Nur Hidayati Oktavia, Ardian Yudhi Octantyo, Robby Wallansha, Juwita Sari Pradita, Nur Fani Habibah, Audia Kaluku, Amelia Chelcea, Yoga Dharma Persada, Anton Sugiharto

Abstract:

Earthquake vibrations on the surface are not only affected by the magnitude of the earthquake and the distance from the hypocenter but also by the characteristics of the local soil. Variations and changes in soil characteristics from the depth of the bedrock to the surface can cause an amplification of earthquake vibrations that also affect the impact they may have on the surface. Soil characteristics vary widely even at relatively close distances, so for earthquake hazard mapping in cities with earthquake threats, it is necessary to study the characteristics of the local soil on a detailed or micro-scale (microzonation). This study proposes seismic microzonation and liquefaction potential based on microtremor observations. We carried out 143 microtremor observations, and the observation sites were spread across all populated sub-districts in Bengkulu City; the results showed that the dominance of Bengkulu City had medium soil types with a dominant period value of 0.4 < T₀ < 0.6, and there was one location with soft soil characteristics in the river, shaved with T₀ > 0.6. These results correlate with the potential for liquefaction as indicated by a seismic vulnerability index (K𝓰) greater than 5.

105 Utilization of Watermelon Rind Extract as Green Anti-Scalent for Cooling Water Systems

Authors: Elsayed G. Zaki, Nora A. Hamad, Hadeel G. El-Shorbagy

Abstract:

The effect of watermelon rind extract as green inhibitors for the formation of calcium sulphate scale have been investigated using conductivity measurements concurrently with the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and optical microscopic examinations. Mineral scales were deposited from the brine solution by cathodic polarization of the steel surface. The results show up that the anti-scaling property of the extracts could be attributed to the presence of citrulline. In solution, citrulline retards calcium sulphate precipitation via formation of a complex with the calcium cations. Thin, smooth and non adherent film formed over the steel surface, under cathodic polarization, by the deposition of the calcium- citrulline complex. The stability of the aqueous extracts with time was also investigated.

Authors: Moushira Zaki, Wafaa Ezzat, Yasser Elhosary, Omnia Saleh

Abstract:

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has increased in conjunction with obesity. The accuracy of risk factors for detecting NAFLD in obese adolescents has not undergone a formal evaluation. The aim of this study was to evaluate predictors of NAFLD among Egyptian female obese adolescents. The study included 162 obese female adolescents. All were subjected to anthropometry, biochemical analysis and abdominal ultrasongraphic assessment. Metabolic syndrome (MS) was diagnosed according to the IDF criteria. Significant association between presence of MS and NAFLD was observed. Obese adolescents with NAFLD had significantly higher levels of ALT, triglycerides, fasting glucose, insulin, blood pressure and HOMA-IR, whereas decreased HDL-C levels as compared with obese cases without NAFLD. Receiver–operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis shows that ALT is a sensitive predictor for NAFLD, confirming that ALT can be used as a marker of NAFLD.

Authors: Abubaker A. Yousif, Muhamad S. Yasir

Abstract:

The Effectiveness of lower doses of high-LET radiations is not accurately determined by using energy-based physical parameters such as absorbed dose and radio-sensitivity parameters. Therefore, an attempt has been carried out in this research to propose alternative parameter that capable to quantify the effectiveness of these high LET radiations at lower doses regions. The linear energy transfer and mean free path are employed to achieve this objective. A new mathematical form of the effectiveness of high-LET radiations at lower doses region has been formulated. Based on this parameter, the optimized effectiveness of high-LET radiations occurs when the energy of charged particles is deposited at spacing of 2 nm for primary ionization.
