Authors: David Barney, Francis Pleban, Muna Muday
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to explore gender differences of former physical education students related to reflective experiences of competition in physical education learning environment. In the school environment, students are positioned in competitive situations, including in the physical education context. Therefore it is important to prepare future physical educators to address the role of competition in physical education. Participants for this study were 304 college-aged students and young adults (M = 1.53, SD = .500), from a private university and local community located in the western United States. When comparing gender, significant differences (p < .05) were reported for four (questions 5, 7, 12, and 14) of the nine scaling questions. Follow-up quantitative findings reported that males (41%) more than females (27%) witnessed fights in physical education environment during competitive games. Qualitative findings reported fighting were along the lines of verbal confrontation. Female participants tended to experience being excluded from games, when compared to male participants. Both male and female participants (total population; 95%, males; 98%; and females 92%) were in favor of including competition in physical education for students. Findings suggest that physical education teachers and physical education teacher education programs have a responsibility to develop gender neutral learning experiences that help students better appreciate the role competition plays, both in and out of the physical education classroom. Keywords: competition, physical education, physical education teacher education, gender

Authors: Arafat Husain
Abstract:
The lubricants are one of the most used resource in today’s world. Lot of the superpowers are dependent on the lubricant resource for their country to function. To see that the lubricants are not adulterated we need to develop some efficient ways and to see which fluid has been added to the lubricant. So to observe the these malpractices in the lubricant we need to develop a method. We take a elastic ball and through it at probability circle in the submerged in the lubricant at a fixed force and see the distance of pitching and the point of fall. Then we the ratio of distance of falling to the distance of pitching and if the measured ratio is greater than one the fluid is less viscous and if the ratio is lesser than the lubricant is viscous. We will check the falling point of pure lubricant at fixed force and every pure lubricant would have a fixed falling point. After that we would adulterate the lubricant and note the falling point and if the falling point is less than the standard value then adulterate is solid and if the adulterate is liquid the falling point will be more than the standard value. Hence the comparison with the standard falling point will give the efficiency of the lubricant. Keywords: falling point of lubricant, falling point ratios, probability circle, octane number

Authors: M. Manohari, Himanshu Gupta, S. Priyadharshini, R. Santhanam, S. Chandrasekaran, B. Venkatraman
Abstract:
Injection is one of the potential routes of intake in a radioactive facility. The internal dose due to this intake is monitored at the radiation emergency medical centre, IGCAR using a portable planar HPGe detector. The contaminated wound may be having different shapes. In a reprocessing potential of wound contamination with actinide is more. Efficiency is one of the input parameters for estimation of internal dose. Estimating these efficiencies experimentally would be tedious and cumbersome. Numerical estimation can be a supplement to experiment. As an initial step in this study 241Am contamination of different shapes are studied. In this study portable planar HPGe detector was modeled using Monte Carlo code FLUKA and the effect of different parameters like distance of the contamination from the detector, radius of the circular contamination were studied. Efficiency values for point and surface contamination located at different distances were estimated. The effect of efficiency on the radius of the surface source was more predominant when the source is at 1 cm distance compared to when the source to detector distance is 10 cm. At 1 cm the efficiency decreased quadratically as the radius increased and at 10 cm it decreased linearly. The point source efficiency varied exponentially with source to detector distance. Keywords: Planar HPGe, efficiency value, injection, surface source

Procedia PDF Downloads 4698710 An Improved Ant Colony Algorithm for Genome Rearrangements
Authors: Essam Al Daoud
Abstract:
Genome rearrangement is an important area in computational biology and bioinformatics. The basic problem in genome rearrangements is to compute the edit distance, i.e., the minimum number of operations needed to transform one genome into another. Unfortunately, unsigned genome rearrangement problem is NP-hard. In this study an improved ant colony optimization algorithm to approximate the edit distance is proposed. The main idea is to convert the unsigned permutation to signed permutation and evaluate the ants by using Kaplan algorithm. Two new operations are added to the standard ant colony algorithm: Replacing the worst ants by re-sampling the ants from a new probability distribution and applying the crossover operations on the best ants. The proposed algorithm is tested and compared with the improved breakpoint reversal sort algorithm by using three datasets. The results indicate that the proposed algorithm achieves better accuracy ratio than the previous methods. Keywords: ant colony algorithm, edit distance, genome breakpoint, genome rearrangement, reversal sort

Authors: Rashid Mahmood, Muhammad Sufyan, Nasir Ahmed
Abstract:
The MANETs have lessened transportation and decentralized network. There are numerous basis of routing protocols. We derived the MANETs protocol into three major categories like Reactive, Proactive and hybrid. In these protocols, we discussed only some protocols like Distance Sequenced Distance Vector (DSDV), Ad hoc on Demand Distance Vector (AODV) and Dynamic Source Routing (DSR). The AODV and DSR are both reactive type of protocols. On the other hand, DSDV is proactive type protocol here. We compare these routing protocols for network security estimated by network simulator (NS-2). In this dissertation some parameters discussed such as simulation time, packet size, number of node, packet delivery fraction, push time and speed etc. We will construct all these parameters on routing protocols under suitable conditions for network security measures. Keywords: DSDV, AODV, DSR NS-2, PDF, push time

Authors: R. M. Bashir, Sabo Elizabeth
Abstract:
Electronic learning is an increasingly popular learning approach in higher educational institutions due to vast growth of internet technology. An investigation on the assessment of e-learning facilities and information need by open and distance learning students in Jalingo, Nigeria was conducted. Structured questionnaires were administered to 70 students of the university. Information sourced from the respondents covered demographic, economic and institutional variables. Data collected for demographic variables were computed as frequency count and percentages. Information on assessment of e-learning facilities and information need among open and distance learning students was computed on a three or four point Likert Rating Scale. Findings indicated that there are more men compared to women, a large proportion of the respondents are married and there are more matured students. A high proportion of the students obtained qualifications higher than the secondary school certificate. The proportion of computer literate students was higher compared with those students that owned a computer. Inadequate e-books and reference materials, internet gadgets and inadequate books (hard copies) and reference material are factors that limit utilization of e-learning facilities. Inadequate computer facilities caused delay in examination schedule at the study center. Open and distance learning students required to a high extent information on university timetable and schedule of activities, books (hard and e-books) and reference materials and contact with course coordinators via internet for better learning and academic performance. Keywords: open and distance learning, information required, electronic books, internet gadgets, Likert scale test
