Authors: Myung-Gon Yoon, Jung-Ho Moon, Tae Kwon Ha
Abstract:
This paper considers a robust stabilization problem of a single agent in a multi-agent consensus system composed of identical agents, when the network topology of the system is completely unknown. It is shown that the transfer function of an agent in a consensus system can be described as a multiplicative perturbation of the isolated agent transfer function in frequency domain. Applying known robust stabilization results, we present sufficient conditions for a robust stabilization of an agent against unknown network topology. Keywords: single agent control, multi-agent system, transfer function, graph angle

Abstract:
This study suggests the analysis method to predict the damages of tunnel concrete caused by fires. The result obtained from the analyses of concrete temperatures at a fire in a tunnel using ABAQUS was compared with the test result. After the reliability of the analysis method was verified, the temperatures of a tunnel at a real fire and those of concrete during the fire were estimated to predict fire damages. The temperatures inside the tunnel were estimated by FDS, a CFD model. It was deduced that the fire performance of tunnel lining and the fire damages of the structure at an actual fire could be estimated by the analysis method. Keywords: fire resistance, heat transfer, numerical analysis, tunnel fire

Abstract:
Background: CollatampTM is Gentamicin-containing collagen sponge well known for its hemostatic effect, commonly utilized in surgeries. We inserted CollatempTM wrapped by SurgicelTM (oxidized cellulose polymer) to fill up the defect after breast conserving surgery. The purpose of this study is to verify the furthermore cosmetic value of CollatampTM in breast conserving surgery conducted in breast cancer patients. Methods: 17 patients were enrolled in this study, underwent breast conserving surgery with CollatampTM wrapped by SurgicelTM insertion, in Inje University Busan Paik Hospital from October 2015 to September 2016. Patient satisfaction, cosmetic outcome, results at 6 months from operation was analyzed to verify the effectiveness and usefulness of CollatampTM for cosmetics. Patient satisfaction was investigated through interviews on a scale of good, fair, poor, and the cosmetic outcome was investigated through physical examination by a surgeon who did not participate in the operations. Results: Among 17 patients, nine of them gave ‘good’ for patient satisfaction, eight gave ‘fair’ and none of them ‘poor’. Also, cosmetic outcome came out with 11 ‘good’s, six ‘fair’s, no ‘poor’. In ‘good’ patient satisfaction group, the mean value of resection to breast volume ratio was 16%, compared to 24% of ‘fair’ group. The mean value of actual resection volume was 100.6cm3, 102.7cm3 each. In ‘good’ cosmetic outcome group, the mean value of resection to breast volume ratio was 18%, compared to 23% of ‘fair’ group. The mean value of actual resection volume was 99.2cm3, 105.9cm3 respectively. According to these results, patient satisfaction and cosmetic outcome after surgeries were more reliable on the resection to breast volume ratio, rather than the actual resection volume. There were eight cases of postoperative complications, consisting of a lymphedema, a seroma, and six patients had mild pain. Conclusions: Cosmetic effect of CollatampTM in breast conserving surgery was more reliable on the resection to breast volume ratio, rather than the actual resection volume. In this short term survey, patients were tend to be satisfied with the cosmetics, all giving either good or fair scores. However, long term outcomes should be further assessed. Keywords: breast cancer, breast conserving surgery, collatamp, cosmetics

Authors: Hyun-Seok Hong, In-Gun Kim, Ye-Jun Oh, Ju Lee
Abstract:
This paper deals with the effects of welding performed for the manufacture of laminations in a stator in the case of prototype motors that are manufactured in small quantity. As a result of performing the no-load test for an IPM (interior permanent magnet)-type BLDC (blushless direct current) motor manufactured by welding both inside and outside of the stator, it was found that more DC input than expected was provided. To verify the effects of welding, a stator was re-manufactured by bonding, and DC inputs provided during the no-load test were compared. Keywords: welding, stator, Eddy current, BLDC
Procedia PDF Downloads 531374 Mechanical Properties of Biological Tissues
Authors: Young June Yoon
Abstract:
We will present four different topics in estimating the mechanical properties of biological tissues. First we elucidate the viscoelastic behavior of collagen molecules whose diameter is a couple of nanometers. By using the molecular dynamics simulation, we observed the viscoelastic behavior in different pulling velocity. Second, the protein layer, so called ‘sheath’ in enamel microstructure reduces the stress concentration in enamel minerals. We examined the result by using the finite element methods. Third, the anisotropic elastic constants of dentin are estimated by micromechanical analysis and estimated results are close to the experimentally measured data. Last, new formulation between the fabric tensor and the wave velocity is established for calcaneus by employing the poroelasticity. This formulation can be simply used for future experiments. Keywords: tissues, mechanics, mechanical properties, wave propagation

Abstract:
After the advent of Achaeans which utilize different metabolism pathway and contain conspicuously different cellular structure, they have been recognized as possible materials for developing quality of human beings. Among diverse Achaeans, in this paper, we compared 16s RNA Sequences of four different species of Thermococcus: Achaeans genus specialized in sulfur-dealing metabolism. Four Species, Barophilus, Kodakarensis, Hydrothermalis, and Onnurineus, live near the hydrothermal vent that emits extreme amount of sulfur and heat. By comparing ribosomal sequences of aforementioned four species, we found similarities in their sequences and expressed protein, enabling us to expect that certain ribosomal sequence or proteins are vital for their survival. Apriori algorithms and Decision Tree were used. for comparison. Keywords: Achaeans, Thermococcus, apriori algorithm, decision tree

Abstract:
The quality of video transmitted by mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) can be influenced by several factors, including protocol layers; parameter settings of each protocol. In this paper, we are concerned with understanding the functional relationship between these influential factors and objective video quality in MANETs. We illustrate a systematic statistical design of experiments (DOE) strategy can be used to analyse MANET parameters and performance. Using a 2k factorial design, we quantify the main and interactive effects of 7 factors on a response metric (i.e., mean opinion score (MOS) calculated by PSNR with Evalvid package) we then develop a first-order linear regression model between the influential factors and the performance metric. Keywords: evalvid, full factorial design, mobile ad hoc networks, ns-2

Authors: Hasik Lee, Seung-Young Kho
Abstract:
Nowadays, automatic fare collection (AFC) system is widely used in many countries. However, smart card data from many of cities does not contain alighting information which is necessary to build OD matrices. Therefore, in order to utilize smart card data, destinations of passengers should be estimated. In this paper, kernel density estimation was used to forecast probabilities of alighting stations of bus passengers and applied to smart card data in Seoul, Korea which contains boarding and alighting information. This method was also validated with actual data. In some cases, stochastic method was more accurate than deterministic method. Therefore, it is sufficiently accurate to be used to build OD matrices. Keywords: destination estimation, Kernel density estimation, smart card data, validation
Procedia PDF Downloads 324367 Adaptive Transmission Scheme Based on Channel State in Dual-Hop System
Authors: Seung-Jun Yu, Yong-Jun Kim, Jung-In Baik, Hyoung-Kyu Song
Abstract:
In this paper, a dual-hop relay based on channel state is studied. In the conventional relay scheme, a relay uses the same modulation method without reference to channel state. But, a relay uses an adaptive modulation method with reference to channel state. If the channel state is poor, a relay eliminates latter 2 bits and uses Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK) modulation. If channel state is good, a relay modulates the received symbols with 16-QAM symbols by using 4 bits. The performance of the proposed scheme for Symbol Error Rate (SER) and throughput is analyzed. Keywords: adaptive transmission, channel state, dual-hop, hierarchical modulation, relay
Procedia PDF Downloads 341366 A Robust Frequency Offset Estimator for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
Authors: Keunhong Chae, Seokho Yoon
Abstract:
We address the integer frequency offset (IFO) estimation under the influence of the timing offset (TO) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Incorporating the IFO and TO into the symbol set used to represent the received OFDM symbol, we investigate the influence of the TO on the IFO, and then, propose a combining method between two consecutive OFDM correlations, reducing the influence. The proposed scheme has almost the same complexity as that of the conventional schemes, whereas it does not need the TO knowledge contrary to the conventional schemes. From numerical results it is confirmed that the proposed scheme is insensitive to the TO, consequently, yielding an improvement of the IFO estimation performance over the conventional schemes when the TO exists. Keywords: estimation, integer frequency offset, OFDM, timing offset
Procedia PDF Downloads 441365 QCARNet: Networks for Quality-Adaptive Compression Artifact
Authors: Seung Ho Park, Young Su Moon, Nam Ik Cho
Abstract:
We propose a convolution neural network (CNN) for quality adaptive compression artifact reduction named QCARNet. The proposed method is different from the existing discriminative models that learn a specific model at a certain quality level. The method is composed of a quality estimation CNN (QECNN) and a compression artifact reduction CNN (CARCNN), which are two functionally separate CNNs. By connecting the QECNN and CARCNN, each CARCNN layer is able to adaptively reduce compression artifacts and preserve details depending on the estimated quality level map generated by the QECNN. We experimentally demonstrate that the proposed method achieves better performance compared to other state-of-the-art blind compression artifact reduction methods. Keywords: compression artifact reduction, deblocking, image denoising, image restoration
Procedia PDF Downloads 106364 Cooperative CDD Scheme Based On Hierarchical Modulation in OFDM System
Authors: Seung-Jun Yu, Yeong-Seop Ahn, Young-Min Ko, Hyoung-Kyu Song
Abstract:
In order to achieve high data rate and increase the spectral efficiency, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system has been proposed. However, multiple antennas are limited by size and cost. Therefore, recently developed cooperative diversity scheme, which profits the transmit diversity only with the existing hardware by constituting a virtual antenna array, can be a solution. However, most of the introduced cooperative techniques have a common fault of decreased transmission rate because the destination should receive the decodable compositions of symbols from the source and the relay. In this paper, we propose a cooperative cyclic delay diversity (CDD) scheme that uses hierarchical modulation. This scheme is free from the rate loss and allows seamless cooperative communication. Keywords: MIMO, cooperative communication, CDD, hierarchical modulation

This study attempts to examine the disparities in S&T innovation capacity from 14 developing countries to discuss how to support specific features in national innovation systems. It includes East-Asian, Middle-Asian, Central American and African countries. Here, we particularly focus on five dimensions- resources, activities, network, environment and performance- with 37 indicators. They were derived as structuring components of the relevant diagnostic model, which encompasses the whole process of S&T innovation from the input of resources to the output of economically valuable results. For many developing nations, economic industries remain weaker than actual S&T capabilities, and relevant regulatory authorities may not exist. Abstract:
In multiple input multiple output-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems, many detection schemes have been developed to improve the error performance and to reduce the complexity. Maximum likelihood (ML) detection has optimal error performance but it has very high complexity. Thus, this paper proposes reduced complexity of ML detection combined with decision feedback equalizer (DFE). The error performance of the proposed detection scheme is higher than the conventional DFE. But the complexity of the proposed scheme is lower than the conventional ML detection. Keywords: detection, DFE, MIMO-OFDM, ML
Procedia PDF Downloads 577361 New Moment Rotation Model of Single Web Angle Connections
Authors: Zhengyi Kong, Seung-Eock Kim
Abstract:
Single angle connections, which are bolted to the beam web and the column flange, are studied to investigate moment-rotation behavior. Elastic–perfectly plastic material behavior is assumed. ABAQUS software is used to analyze the nonlinear behavior of a single angle connection. The same geometric and material conditions with Yanglin Gong’s test are used for verifying finite element models. Since Kishi and Chen’s Power model and Lee and Moon’s Log model are accurate only for a limited range, simpler and more accurate hyperbolic function models are proposed. The equation for calculating rotation at ultimate moment is first proposed. Keywords: finite element method, moment and rotation, rotation at ultimate moment, single-web angle connections

Abstract:
In recent years, a multi-antenna system is actively used to improve the performance of the communication. A MIMO-OFDM system can provide multiplexing gain or diversity gain. These gains are obtained in proportion to the increase of the number of antennas. In order to provide the optimal gain of the MIMO-OFDM system, various transmission and reception schemes are presented. This paper aims to propose a hybrid scheme that base station provides both diversity gain and multiplexing gain at the same time. Keywords: DFE, diversity gain, hybrid, MIMO, multiplexing gain.

Procedia PDF Downloads 553356 Biosignal Measurement System Based on Ultra-Wide Band Human Body Communication
Authors: Jonghoon Kim, Gilwon Yoon
Abstract:
A wrist-band type biosignal measurement system and its data transfer through human body communication (HBC) were investigated. An HBC method based on pulses of ultra-wide band instead of using frequency or amplitude modulations was studied and implemented since the system became very compact and it was more suited for personal or mobile health monitoring. Our system measured photo-plethysmogram (PPG) and measured PPG signals were transmitted through a finger to a monitoring PC system. The device was compact and low-power consuming. HBC communication has very strong security measures since it does not use wireless network. Furthermore, biosignal monitoring system becomes handy because it does not need to have wire connections. Keywords: biosignal, human body communication, mobile health, PPG, ultrawide band

Authors: Chang-Bin Ha, Yong-Jun Kim, Dong-Hyun Ha, Hyoung-Kyu Song
Abstract:
The conventional Wi-Fi back scatter system can only process one-to-one communication between the Wi-Fi reader and the Wi-Fi tag. For improvement of throughput of the conventional system, this paper proposes the multi-to-multi communication system. In the proposed system, the interference by the multi-to-multi communication is effectively cancelled by the orthogonal multiple access based on the identification code of the tag. Although the overhead is generated by the procedure for the multi-to-multi communication, because the procedure is processed by the Wi-Fi protocol, the overhead is insignificant for the entire communication procedure. From the numerical results, it is confirmed that the proposed system has nearly proportional increased throughput in according to the number of the tag that simultaneously participates in communication. Keywords: backscatter, multi-to-multi communication, orthogonality, Wi-Fi
