3 A proposed High-Resolution Time-Frequency Distribution for the Analysis of Multicomponent and Speech Signals
Authors: D. Boutana, B. Barkat , F. Marir
Abstract:
In this paper, we propose a novel time-frequency distribution (TFD) for the analysis of multi-component signals. In particular, we use synthetic as well as real-life speech signals to prove the superiority of the proposed TFD in comparison to some existing ones. In the comparison, we consider the cross-terms suppression and the high energy concentration of the signal around its instantaneous frequency (IF).

Abstract:
This paper presents the cepstral and trispectral analysis of a speech signal produced by normal men, men with defective audition (deaf, deep deaf) and others affected by tracheotomy, the trispectral analysis based on parametric methods (Autoregressive AR) using the fourth order cumulant. These analyses are used to detect and compare the pitches and the formants of corresponding voiced sounds (vowel \a\, \i\ and \u\). The first results appear promising, since- it seems after several experimentsthere is no deformation of the spectrum as one could have supposed it at the beginning, however these pathologies influenced the two characteristics: The defective audition influences to the formants contrary to the tracheotomy, which influences the fundamental frequency (pitch). Keywords: Cepstrum, cumulant, defective audition, tracheotomisy, trispectrum.

Authors: Redha Benzid, Farid Marir, Nour-Eddine Bouguechal
Abstract:
This paper presents a new Quality-Controlled, wavelet based, compression method for electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. Initially, an ECG signal is decomposed using the wavelet transform. Then, the resulting coefficients are iteratively thresholded to guarantee that a predefined goal percent root mean square difference (GPRD) is matched within tolerable boundaries. The quantization strategy of extracted non-zero wavelet coefficients (NZWC), according to the combination of RLE, HUFFMAN and arithmetic encoding of the NZWC and a resulting look up table, allow the accomplishment of high compression ratios with good quality reconstructed signals.
