6 Development and Characterization of Sb₂(SₓSe₁-ₓ)₃ Thin Films and Its Application as a Promising Photocathode
Authors: N. R. Mathews, R. G. Sotelo Marquina, R. G. Avilez García, X. Mathew
Abstract:
Sb₂(SₓSe₁-ₓ)₃ thin films were developed by a single-step electrodeposition process on fluorine-doped SnO₂ conducting substrates. Cyclic voltammetry studies were done to determine the optimum potential for the co-electrodeposition of Sb-S-Se. The deposited films were adherent and uniform, without pin holes. The effect of the deposition potential on the S/Se ratio in the films and the optoelectronic properties was correlated. The results of the structural, morphological and optical properties of the films will be presented. The structural studies using X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy confirmed the formation of orthorhombic antimony sulfide selenide thin films without any impurity phases. The optical band gap of Sb₂(SₓSe₁-ₓ)₃ decreased with the increase of the Se concentration in the films. The capacitance-voltage data showed a negative slope, characteristic of p-type materials. The films deposited at higher negative potentials showed larger carrier concentrations due to their higher Se content. The heterostructure Sb2(S-Se)₃ CdS/Pt demonstrated a photocurrent density of 10 mA cm-² at 0 V vs reversible hydrogen electrodeKeywords: Sb2(SxSe1-x)3, photocathode, chalcogenide thin-films, electrodeposition

Abstract:
This work explores the Sb2S3 thin-film deposition conditions by close spaced sublimation (CSS). Among the various film deposition techniques available for this material, in general, the CSS has the advantages such as fast deposition, large grains, and lower defect density in films. Different batches of films were deposited with substrate temperature in range 250 to 400 oC and the structural, morphological, optical, spectroscopic and opto-electronic properties were analyzed. In the studied temperature range, the films were pure without any oxide phases. The stoichiometry was close to ideal value for the film deposited at 350 oC. The films showed strong preference for the crystallographic planes with miller index terminating in “1” (hk1), which implies that the grain growth is either perpendicular or inclined to the substrate. This was supported by the SEM cross-section images showing long vertical or inclined ribbons. The photoluminescence showed a dependance on deposition temperature. However, contrary to the expectation it was observed that the photosensitivity has an inverse dependance on the deposition temperature. There is no reason to believe that it is due to the film degradation, but possibly due to the defects or barriers at the interface between the film and the current collecting electrodes, which needs further research. Keywords: photosensitivity, Sb2S3, close spaced sublimation, vertical grain growth
Procedia PDF Downloads 44 Hybridization as a Process of Refusal of Imposed Popular Architecture
Authors: Jorge Eliseo Muñiz-Gutierrez, Daniel Olvera-García, Cristina Sotelo-Salas
Abstract:
The objective of this research is to allow the understanding of the hybridization process shown in culture through the architecture of mass production for the purpose of consumption, taking as a case study the mass-built housing of the city of Mexicali, Mexico. The methodology is born from the hermeneutical study of the meta-modified architectural object, which guided the research with a qualitative focus to be carried out in two stages, the first is based on the literature review regarding cultural hybridization, and the second stage is carried out in through an ethnographic study of the cultural exploration of the contextual landscape produced by the houses located in popular neighborhoods of the city of Mexicali, Mexico. The research shows that there is an unconscious hybridization process, the birth of a mixture of impositions guided by the popular and the personal aspirations of the inhabitant. The study presents the possibilities of a home and the relationship with its inhabitant and, in turn, its effects on the context and its contribution to culture through hybridization. Keywords: hybridization, architectural landscape, architecture, mass housing
Procedia PDF Downloads 1733 Pollution Analysis of the Basin High in the Bogota River, Colombia
Authors: Luis Felipe Pinzon Uribe, Hernando Sotelo Rojas
Abstract:
The water is an essential factor for the development and the conservation of biological diversity in Colombia; its abundant natural wealth has its origin in their water sources. These during the past few years have been altered by anthropogenic activities, in particular pollutants such as heavy metals, given its ability to infiltrate the sediments reducing its natural capacity of absorption and clean of the ecosystem. The pollutant loads by bio-accumulation remain in the ecosystem for many years; the Bogota River, located in the Cundinamarca Department, is an example of this process. Since that form in the Villapinzón municipality up to its mouth in the Magdalena River, in the Girardot municipality, along with its route it receives large amount of polluted waters from different sources. The study focused on five points of the high basin of the river; this allowed the analysis of the impact that generates the economic development of the neighboring municipalities and where the poor conditions of the ecosystem, along with low levels of oxygen generates the high values of BOD, dissolved QOD, SS TSS and DS. They have been decisive factors in the decline of the species of its own and a decrease in the supply of the eco-services.Keywords: anthropic activities, wastes water, water quality, heavy metals

Authors: Harish Aryal, Roger Hague, Daniel Sotelo, Felipe Astete Salinas
Abstract:
This paper presents a comparative study of different coolants, materials, and temperatures that can affect the effectiveness of heat exchangers that are used in small modular reactors. The corrugated plate heat exchangers were chosen out of different plate options for testing purposes because of their ease of access and better performance than other existing heat exchangers in recent years. SolidWorks enables us to see various results between water coolants and helium coolants acting upon different types of conducting metals, which were selected from different fluids that ultimately satisfied accessibility requirements and were compatible with the software. Though not every element, material, fluid, or method was used in the testing phase, their purpose is to help further research that is to come since the innovation of nuclear power is the future. The tests that were performed are to help better understand the constant necessities that are seen in heat exchangers and through every adjustment see what the breaking points or improvements in the machine are. Depending on consumers and researchers, the results may give further feedback as to show why different types of materials and fluids would be preferred and why it is necessary to keep failures to improve future research. Keywords: heat exchangers, Solidworks, coolants, small modular reactors, nuclear power, nanofluids, Nusselt number, friction factor, Reynolds number

Authors: Aravella Flores, Jose Rafael E. Sotelo, Luis Romulus Phillippe R. Javier, Josh Christian V. Nunez
Abstract:
This study focuses on analyzing the performance of Grade 12 STEM students of De La Salle University - Integrated School that has completed the Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction course in handling fire hazards through Minecraft Java Edition. This platform is suitable because fire DRRR is challenging to learn in a practical setting as well as questionable with regard to supplementing the successful implementation of textbook knowledge into actual practice. The purpose of this study is to acknowledge whether Minecraft can be a suitable environment to familiarize oneself to fire DRRR. The objectives are achieved through utilizing Minecraft in simulating fire scenarios which allows the participants to freely act upon and practice fire DRRR. The experiment was divided into the grounding and validation phase, where researchers observed the performance of the participants in the simulation. A pre-simulation and post-simulation survey was given to acknowledge the change in participants’ perception of being able to utilize fire DRRR procedures and their vulnerabilities. The paired t-test was utilized, showing significant differences in the pre-simulation and post-simulation survey scores, thus, insinuating improved judgment of DRRR, lessening their vulnerabilities in the possibility of encountering a fire hazard. This research poses a model for future research which can gather more participants and dwell on more complex codes outside just command blocks and into the code lines of Minecraft itself. Keywords: minecraft, DRRR, fire, disaster, simulation
