Authors: Hyejin Lee
Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to analyze the current state of Korean language curriculum at universities in India and to explore and suggest ways to improve it. Recently, Korean language education in India has been expanding due to the influence of the Korean Wave, the influx of Korean companies into the Indian economy, and the adoption of Korean as a second language. As a result, three additional Korean language majors have been established at universities in India during the 2020s. In light of such recent developments in India, it is likely that Korean Education will continue to expand. Interviews were conducted with faculty members at universities that offer Korean language majors to analyze their current operations and needs. Based on the analysis results, the following directions were suggested for improvement: 1) establishing a basic model of the curriculum and categorizing the curriculum to reflect the characteristics of each university and the needs of learners, 2) reflecting the characteristics of the curriculum at the level of overseas university majors and reflecting local conditions and needs, 3) utilizing new education policies in India, and 4) utilizing online content and online methods. Keywords: universities in India, overseas universities, Korean language major curriculum, current state, improvement measures
