6180 A General Approach to Define Adjoint of Linear and Non-linear Operators
Authors: Mehdi Jafari Matehkolaee
Abstract:
In this paper, we have obtained the adjoint of an arbitrary operator (linear and nonlinear) in Hilbert space by introducing an n-dimensional Riemannian manifold. This general formalism covers every linear operator (non – differential) in Hilbert space. In fact, our approach shows that instead of using the adjoint definition of an operator directly, it can be obtained directly by relying on a suitable generalized space according to the action of the operator in question. For the case of nonlinear operators, we have to change the definition of the linear operator adjoint. But here, we have obtained an adjoint of these operators with respect to the definition of the derivative of the operator. As a matter of fact, we have shown one of the straight applications of the ''Frechet derivative'' in the algebra of the operators. Keywords: adjoint operator, non-linear operator, differentiable operator, manifold
Procedia PDF Downloads 816179 Scheduled Maintenance and Downtime Cost in Aircraft Maintenance Management
Authors: Remzi Saltoglu, Nazmia Humaira, Gokhan Inalhan
Abstract:
During aircraft maintenance scheduling, operator calculates the budget of the maintenance. Usually, this calculation includes only the costs that are directly related to the maintenance process such as cost of labor, material, and equipment. In some cases, overhead cost is also included. However, in some of those, downtime cost is neglected claiming that grounding is a natural fact of maintenance; therefore, it is not considered as part of the analytical decision-making process. Based on the normalized data, we introduce downtime cost with its monetary value and add its seasonal character. We envision that the rest of the model, which works together with the downtime cost, could be checked with the real life cases, through the review of MRO cost and airline spending in the particular and scheduled maintenance events. Keywords: aircraft maintenance, downtime, downtime cost, maintenance cost

Equipment standard time and overall equipment efficiency (OEE) information are also gathered and analyzed to achieve a balanced and optimized production. Keywords: operator efficiency, optimized production, line balancing, industrial and manufacturing engineering
Procedia PDF Downloads 6916177 Discrete Breeding Swarm for Cost Minimization of Parallel Job Shop Scheduling Problem
Authors: Tarek Aboueldahab, Hanan Farag
Abstract:
Parallel Job Shop Scheduling Problem (JSP) is a multi-objective and multi constrains NP- optimization problem. Traditional Artificial Intelligence techniques have been widely used; however, they could be trapped into the local minimum without reaching the optimum solution, so we propose a hybrid Artificial Intelligence model (AI) with Discrete Breeding Swarm (DBS) added to traditional Artificial Intelligence to avoid this trapping. This model is applied in the cost minimization of the Car Sequencing and Operator Allocation (CSOA) problem. The practical experiment shows that our model outperforms other techniques in cost minimization. Keywords: parallel job shop scheduling problem, artificial intelligence, discrete breeding swarm, car sequencing and operator allocation, cost minimization

Authors: Jin Liang, Guanghua Shi
Abstract:
In this paper, we are concerned with the further refinements of the Heinz operator inequalities in Hilbert spaces. Our purpose is to derive several new Heinz-type operator inequalities. First, with the help of the Taylor series of some hyperbolic functions, we obtain some refinements of the ordering relations among Heinz means defined by Bhatia with different parameters, which would be more suitable in obtaining the corresponding operator inequalities. Second, we present some generalizations of Heinz operator inequalities. Finally, we give a matrix version of the Heinz inequality for the Hilbert-Schmidt norm. Keywords: Hilbert space, means inequality, norm inequality, positive linear operator

Authors: Jeremy Moloney
Abstract:
A major oil and gas operator in western Canada producing approximately 50,000 BOE per day of sour fluids was experiencing increased water production along with decreased oil production over several years. The higher water volumes being produced meant an increase in the operator’s incumbent corrosion inhibitor (CI) chemical requirements but with reduced oil production revenues. Thus, a cost-effective corrosion inhibitor solution was sought to deliver enhanced corrosion mitigation of the carbon steel pipeline infrastructure but at reduced chemical injection dose rates. This paper presents the laboratory work conducted on the development of a corrosion inhibitor under the operator’s simulated sour operating conditions and then subsequent field testing of the product. The new CI not only provided extremely good levels of general and localized corrosion inhibition and outperformed the incumbent CI under the laboratory test conditions but did so at vastly lower concentrations. In turn, the novel CI product facilitated field chemical injection rates to be optimized and reduced by 40% compared with the incumbent whilst maintaining superior corrosion protection resulting in significant cost savings and associated sustainability benefits for the operator. Keywords: carbon steel, sour gas, hydrogen sulphide, localized corrosion, pitting, corrosion inhibitor
Procedia PDF Downloads 376174 Study of Effect of Steering Column Orientation and Operator Platform Position on the Hand Vibration in Compactors
Authors: Sunil Bandaru, Suresh Yv, Srinivas Vanapalli
Abstract:
Heavy machinery especially compactors has more vibrations induced from the compactor mechanism than the engines. Since the operator’s comfort is most important in any of the machines, this paper shows interest in studying the vibrations on the steering wheel for a double drum compactor. As there are no standard procedures available for testing vibrations on the steering wheel of double drum compactors, this paper tries to evaluate the vibrations on the steering wheel by considering most of the possibilities. In addition to the feasibility for the operator to adjust the steering wheel tilt as in the case of automotive, there is an option for the operator to change the orientation of the operator platform for the complete view of the road’s edge on both the ends of the front and rear drums. When the orientation is either +/-180°, the operator will be closer to the compactor mechanism; also there is a possibility for the shuffle in the modes with respect to the operator. Hence it is mandatory to evaluate the vibrations levels in both cases. This paper attempts to evaluate the vibrations on the steering wheel by considering the two operator platform positions and three steering wheel tilting angles. Keywords: FEA, CAE, steering column, steering column orientation position

Authors: Pushpendra Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, R. Balasubramanian
Abstract:
Estimation of optical flow from a sequence of images using variational methods is one of the most successful approach. Discontinuity between different motions is one of the challenging problem in flow estimation. In this paper, we design a new anisotropic diffusion operator, which is able to provide smooth flow over a region and efficiently preserve discontinuity in optical flow. This operator is designed on the basis of intensity differences of the pixels and isotropic operator using exponential function. The combination of these are used to control the propagation of flow. Experimental results on the different datasets verify the robustness and accuracy of the algorithm and also validate the effect of anisotropic operator in the discontinuity preserving. Keywords: optical flow, variational methods, computer vision, anisotropic operator

Authors: Rawhy Ismail
Abstract:
Applying fractional calculus in the field of electromagnetics shows significant results. The fractionalization of the conventional curl operator leads to having additional solutions to an electromagnetic problem. This work restudies the concept of the fractional curl operator considering fractional time derivatives in Maxwell’s curl equations. In that sense, a general scheme for the wave loss term is introduced and the degree of freedom of the system is affected through imposing the new fractional parameters. The conventional case is recovered by setting all fractional derivatives to unity. Keywords: curl operator, fractional calculus, fractional curl operators, Maxwell equations
Procedia PDF Downloads 4426171 Differentiation of the Functional in an Optimization Problem for Coefficients of Elliptic Equations with Unbounded Nonlinearity
Authors: Aigul Manapova
Abstract:
We consider an optimal control problem in the higher coefficient of nonlinear equations with a divergent elliptic operator and unbounded nonlinearity, and the Dirichlet boundary condition. The conditions imposed on the coefficients of the state equation are assumed to hold only in a small neighborhood of the exact solution to the original problem. This assumption suggests that the state equation involves nonlinearities of unlimited growth and considerably expands the class of admissible functions as solutions of the state equation. We obtain formulas for the first partial derivatives of the objective functional with respect to the control functions. To calculate the gradients the numerical solutions of the state and adjoint problems are used. We also prove that the gradient of the cost function is Lipchitz continuous. Keywords: cost functional, differentiability, divergent elliptic operator, optimal control, unbounded nonlinearity
Procedia PDF Downloads 1296170 Data-Driven Dynamic Overbooking Model for Tour Operators
Authors: Kannapha Amaruchkul
Abstract:
We formulate a dynamic overbooking model for a tour operator, in which most reservations contain at least two people. The cancellation rate and the timing of the cancellation may depend on the group size. We propose two overbooking policies, namely economic- and service-based. In an economic-based policy, we want to minimize the expected oversold and underused cost, whereas, in a service-based policy, we ensure that the probability of an oversold situation does not exceed the pre-specified threshold. To illustrate the applicability of our approach, we use tour package data in 2016-2018 from a tour operator in Thailand to build a data-driven robust optimization model, and we tested the proposed overbooking policy in 2019. We also compare the data-driven approach to the conventional approach of fitting data into a probability distribution. Keywords: applied stochastic model, data-driven robust optimization, overbooking, revenue management, tour operator

Procedia PDF Downloads 4866167 Approximation to the Hardy Operator on Topological Measure Spaces
Authors: Kairat T. Mynbaev, Elena N. Lomakina
Abstract:
We consider a Hardy-type operator generated by a family of open subsets of a Hausdorff topological space. The family is indexed with non-negative real numbers and is totally ordered. For this operator, we obtain two-sided bounds of its norm, a compactness criterion, and bounds for its approximation numbers. Previously, bounds for its approximation numbers have been established only in the one-dimensional case, while we do not impose any restrictions on the dimension of the Hausdorff space. The bounds for the norm and conditions for compactness earlier have been found using different methods by G. Sinnamon and K. Mynbaev. Our approach is different in that we use domain partitions for all problems under consideration. Keywords: approximation numbers, boundedness and compactness, multidimensional Hardy operator, Hausdorff topological space

Abstract:
This work proposes a fuzzy methodology to support the investment decisions. While choosing among competitive investment projects, the methodology makes ranking of projects using the new aggregation OWA operator – AsPOWA, presented in the environment of possibility uncertainty. For numerical evaluation of the weighting vector associated with the AsPOWA operator the mathematical programming problem is constructed. Authors: Renkai Wang, Tingcun Wei
Abstract:
In this paper, a digital control algorithm based on delta-operator is presented for high-frequency digitally-controlled DC-DC switching converters. The stability and the controlling accuracy of the DC-DC switching converters are improved by using the digital control algorithm based on delta-operator without increasing the hardware circuit scale. The design method of voltage compensator in delta-domain using PID (Proportion-Integration- Differentiation) control is given in this paper, and the simulation results based on Simulink platform are provided, which have verified the theoretical analysis results very well. It can be concluded that, the presented control algorithm based on delta-operator has better stability and controlling accuracy, and easier hardware implementation than the existed control algorithms based on z-operator, therefore it can be used for the voltage compensator design in high-frequency digitally- controlled DC-DC switching converters. Keywords: digitally-controlled DC-DC switching converter, digital voltage compensator, delta-operator, finite word length, stability

Procedia PDF Downloads 466159 Evaluation of Human-Robot Interaction under Mental Fatigue Constraints in Search and Rescue Operations
Authors: Jordan Morrow, Maciej Zawodniok
Abstract:
Human/Robot applications that allow for work to be done remotely are largely dependent on the lassitude of the operators. The exhaustion of these operators is a result of work completion and duration. Existing literature focuses on measuring human fatigue in an attempt to quantify the effect on the response. This paper explores the impact of a fatigued human on human/robot applications, particularly search and rescue aided by a UAV swarm. A model is presented that describes the relationship between the mental fatigue and responsiveness of the operator over extended periods of time. A simulation of the operation is conducted in which the operator is dependent upon the swarm surveying the area and generating reports. Operation efficiency is estimated according to the human/robot feedback loop, which, if not managed, can negatively affect the dynamic. The analysis identifies a trade-off between swarm size and operator fatigue on operation timeliness. The results show that for an operator, there exists an optimal swarm size depending on their level of capability. A more capable operator fatigues at a slower rate and, hence, can complete work at a faster rate. This paper details how to evaluate these systems so that operation costs and operator fatigue can be minimized. Keywords: human, robot, interaction, fatigue, UAV, swarm, search, rescue

Authors: Ferdi Sönmez, Nihal Yorulmaz
Abstract:
Decision making on the true planning of the public transportation systems to serve potential users is a must for metropolitan areas. To take attraction of travelers to projected modes of transport, adequately fair overall travel times should be provided. In this fashion, other benefits such as lower traffic congestion, road safety and lower noise and atmospheric pollution may be earned. The congestion which comes with increasing demand of public transportation is becoming a part of our lives and making residents’ life difficult. Hence, regulations should be done to reduce this congestion. To provide a constructive and balanced regulation in public transportation systems, right stations should be located in right places. In this study, it is aimed to design and implement a Decision Support System (DSS) Application to determine the optimal bus stop places for public transport in Istanbul which is one of the biggest and oldest cities in the world. Required information is gathered from IETT (Istanbul Electricity, Tram and Tunnel) Enterprises which manages all public transportation services in Istanbul Metropolitan Area. By using the most real-like values, cost assignments are made. The cost is calculated with the help of equations produced by bi-level optimization model. For this study, 300 buses, 300 drivers, 10 lines and 110 stops are used. The user cost of each station and the operator cost taken place in lines are calculated. Some components like cost, security and noise pollution are considered as significant factors affecting the solution of set covering problem which is mentioned for identifying and locating the minimum number of possible bus stops. Preliminary research and model development for this study refers to previously published article of the corresponding author. Model results are represented with the intent of decision support to the specialists on locating stops effectively. Keywords: operator cost, bi-level optimization model, user cost, urban transportation

Authors: Abdessalem Abbassi, Ahlem Dakhlaoui, Lota D. Tamini
Abstract:
In this paper, we analyze infinite discrete-time games between hydraulic and thermal power operators in the wholesale electricity market under Cournot competition. We consider a deregulated electrical industry where certain demand is satisfied by hydraulic and thermal technologies. The hydraulic operator decides the production in each season of each period that maximizes the sum of expected profits from power generation with respect to the stochastic dynamic constraint on the water stored in the dam, the environmental constraint and the non-negative output constraint. In contrast, the thermal plant is operated with quadratic cost function, with respect to the capacity production constraint and the non-negativity output constraint. We show that under imperfect competition, the hydraulic operator has a strategic storage of water in the peak season. Then, we quantify the strategic inter-annual and intra-annual water transfer and compare the numerical results. Finally, we show that the thermal operator can restrict the hydraulic output without compensation. Keywords: asymmetric risk aversion, electricity wholesale market, hydropower dams, imperfect competition

Authors: Kenichiro Hida, Shin-Ichi Kuribayashi
Abstract:
NFV-based network implements a variety of network functions with software on general-purpose servers, and this allows the network operator to select any capabilities and locations of network functions without any physical constraints. In this paper, we evaluate the influence of the maximum tolerable network delay on the virtual routing function deployment guidelines which the authors proposed previously. Our evaluation results have revealed the following: (1) the more the maximum tolerable network delay condition becomes severe, the more the number of areas where the route selection function is installed increases and the total network cost increases, (2) the higher the routing function cost relative to the circuit bandwidth cost, the increase ratio of total network cost becomes larger according to the maximum tolerable network delay condition. Keywords: NFV (Network Functions Virtualization), resource allocation, virtual routing function, minimum total network cost

Abstract:
Due to the nature of autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) missions, it is important that the decisions of a UAV stay consistent with the priorities of an operator, while at the same time allowing them to be easily audited and explained. We propose a multi-layer decision engine that integrates the operator (human) preferences by using the Multi-Criteria Decision Aiding (MCDA) methods. A software implementation of a UAV simulator and of the decision engine is presented to highlight the advantage of using such techniques on high-level decisions. We demonstrate that, with such a preference-based decision engine, the decisions of the UAV are compatible with the priorities of the operator, which in turn increases her/his confidence in its autonomous behavior. Keywords: autonomous UAV, multi-criteria decision aiding, multi-layers decision engine, operator's preferences, traceable decisions, UAV simulation

Authors: Takuro Kida, Yuichi Kida
Abstract:
In this paper, it is shown a base of the new trend of algorithm mathematically that treats a historical reason of continuous discrimination in the world as well as its solution by introducing new concepts of parallel world that includes an invisible set of errors as its companion. With respect to a matrix operator-filter bank that the matrix operator-analysis-filter bank H and the matrix operator-sampling-filter bank S are given, firstly, we introduce the detail algorithm to derive the optimum matrix operator-synthesis-filter bank Z that minimizes all the worst-case measures of the matrix operator-error-signals E(ω) = F(ω) − Y(ω) between the matrix operator-input-signals F(ω) and the matrix operator-output-signals Y(ω) of the matrix operator-filter bank at the same time. Further, feedback is introduced to the above approximation theory, and it is indicated that introducing conversations with feedback do not superior automatically to the accumulation of existing knowledge of signal prediction. Secondly, the concept of category in the field of mathematics is applied to the above optimum signal approximation and is indicated that the category-based approximation theory is applied to the set-theoretic consideration of the recognition of humans. Based on this discussion, it is shown naturally why the narrow perception that tends to create isolation shows an apparent advantage in the short term and, often, why such narrow thinking becomes intimate with discriminatory action in a human group. Throughout these considerations, it is presented that, in order to abolish easy and intimate discriminatory behavior, it is important to create a parallel world of conception where we share the set of invisible error signals, including the words and the consciousness of both worlds. Keywords: matrix filterbank, optimum signal approximation, category theory, simultaneous minimization
Procedia PDF Downloads 846151 Classification of Random Doppler-Radar Targets during the Surveillance Operations
Authors: G. C. Tikkiwal, Mukesh Upadhyay
Abstract:
During the surveillance operations at war or peace time, the Radar operator gets a scatter of targets over the screen. This may be a tracked vehicle like tank vis-à-vis T72, BMP etc, or it may be a wheeled vehicle like ALS, TATRA, 2.5Tonne, Shaktiman or moving the army, moving convoys etc. The radar operator selects one of the promising targets into single target tracking (STT) mode. Once the target is locked, the operator gets a typical audible signal into his headphones. With reference to the gained experience and training over the time, the operator then identifies the random target. But this process is cumbersome and is solely dependent on the skills of the operator, thus may lead to misclassification of the object. In this paper, we present a technique using mathematical and statistical methods like fast fourier transformation (FFT) and principal component analysis (PCA) to identify the random objects. The process of classification is based on transforming the audible signature of target into music octave-notes. The whole methodology is then automated by developing suitable software. This automation increases the efficiency of identification of the random target by reducing the chances of misclassification. This whole study is based on live data. Keywords: radar target, FFT, principal component analysis, eigenvector, octave-notes, DSP
