The paper deals with current issues in research of
\r\nadvanced methods to increase reliability of traditional timber
\r\nstructural elements. It analyses the issue of strengthening of bent
\r\ntimber beams, such as ceiling beams in old (historical) buildings with
\r\nadditional concrete slab in combination with externally bonded fibre -
\r\nreinforced polymer. The paper describes experimental testing of
\r\ncomposite timber-concrete beam with FRP reinforcement and
