Abstract:
In this study, we surveyed employers and students to identify alignment between employer needs and student self-assessment of skills. The employers' survey consisted of 15 questions to determine the employers' assessment of the knowledge and skills of graduates in the heavy equipment repairer's programs from four Technical and Vocational Education and Training schools. We also compared the survey questionnaire with Liebherr brand’s job duty requirements to determine the training needs and qualification level of their new workers. The study shows that more than 76% of employers assessed professional knowledge as sufficient, more than 47% of employers assessed vocational skills as sufficient and more than 43% of employers rated attitudes as sufficient. Therefore, we can state that there is a skill mismatch between employer's assessment and students’ self-assessment.
