Freeze concentrated reactions of chitosan with several organic acids including acrylic, citraconic, itaconic, and maleic acid revealed improved solubility and morphological properties. Solubility traits were assessed with a modified ninhydrin test. Chitosan derivatives were characterized by ATR-FTIR and morphological characteristics were determined by SEM. This study is a unique approach to chemically modify chitosan to enhance water solubility. }, journal = {International Journal of Chemical and Molecular Engineering}, volume = {9}, number = {2}, year = {2015}, pages = {334 - 337}, ee = {https://publications.waset.org/pdf/10000884}, url = {https://publications.waset.org/vol/98}, bibsource = {https://publications.waset.org/}, issn = {eISSN: 1307-6892}, publisher = {World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology}, index = {Open Science Index 98, 2015}, }
